What does Public Safety mean to you?
Brown challenges teens to get involved
Ottawa – Today Patrick Brown, M.P. for Barrie, announced he is inviting all Barrie High School students to participate in a Public Safety Scholarship Essay Contest.
“I’m calling on all high school students to submit a 500-word essay on a workable solution for making Barrie a community that is safer from acts of vandalism and crime,” announced Brown.
The student who submits the winning essay will receive the Barrie Public Safety Scholarship Award, worth $500.00, to help with education costs. This year’s scholarship is provided in partnership with and sponsored by Positano Paving.
“Our firm is always happy to participate in community initiatives – especially those involving youth” said Tina Positano of Positano Paving.
The following local community officials will act as judges for the contest:
City of Barrie Councillor, John Brassard;
Chief of Police, Wayne Frechette;
Simcoe County Board of Education Trustee, Diane Firman; and
Simcoe Muskoka Catholic School Board Trustee, Connie Positano
Students can submit their essay online at www.servingbarrie.com. The deadline for submissions is January 15th, 2008.
“I sincerely hope that this project will encourage our youth to take an active role in safety and security solutions for our community,” concluded Brown.
