Re:       Essa Township Secondary School Proposal

 

Dear Mr. Campbell:

 

I am pleased to learn of the Simcoe County District School Board’s decision of February 13, 2008 to initiate plans for a secondary school in Essa Township.  This letter confirms my support of this initiative.

 

As Councillor for Ward 7, I receive frequent calls from parents expressing their concern regarding overcrowding at Bear Creek Secondary School.  I believe that a secondary school in Essa Township would help alleviate the current overcrowding challenges that are being experienced at Bear Creek Secondary School.

 

As you are aware, Barrie is one of the fastest growing communities in Ontario with relatively young demographics.  This youthful population provides the Barrie area with many advantages from a social and economic perspective.  Initiatives that support the needs of our young families such as increased access to secondary schools will benefit these and other new residents for decades.

Again, I wish to emphasize my support of this important initiative which I believe will help build a prosperous future for the students in our community.
