BARRIE - Ward 7 Coun. John Brassard was the first to register to run in October’s municipal election.
Brassard filed his nomination papers Monday morning.
“I’m eager to let it be known that I’m running. There’s nothing like a definitive decision,” said Brassard, a Markham firefighter.
Brassard, who is also the chairperson of the city’s Community Services Committee, said he makes each council decision based on how it affects his family – and by consequence, other Barrie families. He highlighted his work to keep tax increases as low as possible, his leadership to stop the ethanol plant, his opposition to hiring more consultants and support for hiring more police and fire fighters.
Brassard was followed by Michael Tuck, who is seeking the Ward 5 seat.
Mayoralty candidate, former MPP Joe Tascona, said he plans to register Wednesday. Former Mayor Rob Hamilton is expected to file his papers later in January. Mayor Dave Aspden has not said whether he would seek a second term.
Before a candidate can accept a donation or incur any election-related expense, he/she must register. Registering involves filing papers at City Hall, as well as $100 cheque for a council or school trustee wannabe, and $200 for a mayoralty candidate.
